In the latest episode of the GGSC podcast Elspeth your host is joined by GGSC cycling and triathlon coach Charlotte. They will be discussing ways that we can train in high volume. This means increasing the amount of hours of training a week. We would say high volume would be anything from 12 hours a week plus of training.
They will be sharing their valuable years of coaching knowledge on problems encountered with excessive training, how we can benefit from training more, why it's important to train smart and how we need to learn to listen to our bodies.
Firstly the coaches discuss what can happen if you don't train smart and increase your volume too much. We can face injury, fatigue, burnout, lack of motivation, deficiencies. It's really important to periodise our training based on our goals, the times of our events and our training history.
Having good healthy habits is a must for training more, such as a good sleep routine, eating well and being disciplined in preparing our time with adequate rest between training sessions. Training more does not mean tiring yourself out as much as possible, but being well rested for our key training sessions.
More is not always better, so it's so important to learn to listen to your bodies.
